Shared social purpose, connecting our communities and customers

Our mission at CWG is to empower our people, engage our communities and create sustainable places. The breadth of knowledge and experience that our teams bring is what enables us as a business to fulfil our purpose of bringing people together to enhance lives. This is only possible with the 1,200+ people employed by CWG.

Tackling Food Poverty in Tower Hamlets'

We strive to create places for people and nature and understand our responsibility to extend this to our local community. We have partnered with The Felix Project, a charity that tackles food poverty by distributing surplus food to those who need it.

Our priority is to roll out a green scheme to stop surplus quality food from Canary Wharf’s cafes, restaurants, offices, and supermarkets from being wasted. A team of volunteers will collect and sustainably deliver the food directly to local schools and community groups around the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, on foot or in the dedicated electric van in Canada Square car park.

Education

young people eduction session

Supporting education in our community

Supporting education in our community is incredibly important to us. Empowering young people through knowledge sharing and skills-based activities allow them to build the skills they need to reach their full potential.

To support this ambition, our staff volunteer their time in local schools to share their knowledge, support with practical workshops like practice interviews, and provide a valuable insight into the wide range of career opportunities that students can explore.

CWG has a wide range of employment opportunities

Canary Wharf has become a thriving business, leisure and residential neighbourhood and now offers a wide range of high-quality employment opportunities that can enhance the prosperity of the wider local community.

We have partnered with Circle Collective to help unemployed young people in Tower Hamlets get into permanent work, providing free retail space to help young people build their confidence, self-esteem and skills to find long-term jobs, financial independence and training opportunities.

Community Grants Programme

Making a difference to our connecting communities and customers

Through our Community Grants Programme, we aim for positive change through shared social purpose, connecting our communities and customers in areas where we can make a difference.

Our Community Grant Programme is aligned to our overarching Social Value Approach, which focuses on the benefits we deliver to wider society. As part of this, we aim to support local community initiatives that will deliver the greatest impact for those who need it the most.

We are working with The East End Community Foundation (EECF) to deliver the programme. EECF have been working in the East End for over 30 years, they are a trusted grant maker, supporting groups to make a lasting impact, with simple and transparent processes.

The programme is centred around three key themes: Education, Skills and Employment and, Wellbeing and Biodiversity and is open to all not-for-profit organisations operating in and benefitting the residents of Tower Hamlets.
