Wahaca Opens at Canary Wharf

Wahaca, recently voted the best Mexican in London by Zagat 2010, opens its third branch today at Canary Wharf. Inspired by the spirit and diversity of Mexico’s bustling markets, Wahaca was born from a love of fresh, honest, Mexican street food. Classics as well as some unusual dishes, all bursting with vibrant colour and flavour, will be amongst a locally sourced and seasonally evolving menu.

The Canary Wharf restaurant follows successful openings in White City and Covent Garden for founders Mark Selby and Thomasina Miers.

Mark Selby, co-owner of Wahaca, said:

“There has been a huge demand over the last few years from customers coming into our two existing restaurants begging for us to open in Canary Wharf. We have now found the perfect site above ground with a wonderful view over Canada Square Park.”

“Canary Wharf, having been voted one of The Sunday Times Best Green Companies 2009, is the perfect fit for Wahaca. We look forward to introducing customers to our sustainable, locally sourced and seasonal flavours.”

Wahaca joins the Jamie Oliver restaurant Jamie’s Italian, which opened in August and the parlour, Canteen and ROKA which all opened in the Park Pavilion during October and November. Rocket opens in Churchill Place in early 2010.

About the Park Pavilion

The Park Pavilion is located in Canada Square adjacent to the iconic One Canada Square, the tallest building in Britain. It is being constructed and let by Canary Wharf Group plc and is designed by the architect of One Canada Square, Cesar Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects.

The Park Pavilion accommodates four restaurants and bars including Wahaca, Canteen, the parlour and ROKA, and a Lloyds TSB retail bank. The building is a glass pavilion, two stories in height, with a third level terrace offering indoor and outdoor dining facilities with wonderful views of Canada Square Park. Between One Canada Square and the new Pavilion is a sky lit galleria, providing a new internal pedestrian street. There is also a new sky lit arcade providing direct access between One Canada Square, the amenities within the Pavilion and Canada Square Park.

The Pavilion has a ‘green’ roof of sedum moss which helps to conserve energy by regulating the building’s temperature, collecting rain water and enhancing the biodiversity of the Canary Wharf Estate. Canary Wharf has the largest concentration of green roofs in the UK.
