First Retail Brands to Setup Shop at Crossrail Station, Canary Wharf
Canary Wharf Group plc today announced the very first retail brands to open at the new Crossrail retail and leisure destination, due to open its doors in May 2015.
Opening three years in advance of the actual station, the forthcoming retail and leisure destination will play home to some of the UK’s popular brands including Everyman Cinema, the first in East London, Sports Bar & Grill and the Mexican burrito restaurant, Poncho 8.
The mix of these lifestyle and retail brands will be placed within the six storey development, designed by Foster + Partners, which covers the station with a semi open-air timber lattice view.
Andrew Myers, CEO of Everyman Media Group plc said: “We hope that the Everyman concept will become a real hub of entertainment at the new Crossrail development at Canary Wharf. It will definitely add to and offer something extra special to the Canary Wharf community.”
David Evans, Managing Director of Sports Bar & Grill said: “To be the successful tender for the new Canary Wharf Crossrail scheme has placed Sports Bar & Grill at the centre of a key area of London for workers and residents alike. It demonstrates the appetite of discerning sports fans who want to enjoy really good food, whilst watching sports in an environment with state-of-the-art screens.”
Nick Birkett, Co-owner of Poncho 8 stated: “To be selected as the only Mexican operator in the Canary Wharf Crossrail development is very exciting. It will be our flagship store. We already deliver our breakfasts and burritos to a large number of customers in Canary Wharf from our stores in the City so we know the demand is there for Poncho 8’s product.”
Camille Waxer, Chief Administrative Officer for Canary Wharf Group plc, said: “Everyman Cinema, Sports Bar & Grill and Poncho 8 are key brands we’ve been targeting, as they will add enjoyment and diversity to the growing portfolio of retail and leisure outlets at the Canary Wharf estate. It’s very important for us to offer a varied experience to our loyal customers and we look forward to welcoming them at the new Crossrail development opening in May 2015.”
The Group’s 115,000 sq. ft. retail and leisure development above the new Crossrail Station combined with the recent Jubilee Place extension represents one of the largest retail expansions currently underway in the UK.
