Opening Doors to Opportunities

It’s been brilliant to support our office customerKPMG UKon their Opening Doors to Opportunities initiative, a commitment to give one million young people the opportunity to develop their skills by 2030.

This event provided a unique world of work experience for Year 9 students at Swanlea Schoolwhere we also teamed up with Howell’s Architects, giving the students an important insight into architecture and the built environment – helping them develop essential future skills and hands on experience. The activity presented to students asks what they would like to see in Canary Wharf in the future, focusing on the four themes of inclusion, connectivity, greening and growth. And in the afternoon the students headed to KPMG to tackle a real-life client case study and experience what it’s like to be a consultant for the day.

We are delighted to have launched The CWG Community Grant Programme for 2024, this marks a significant opportunity for local voluntary organisations in Tower Hamlets to access vital funding, with grants awarded for £500 up to £10,000.

Our Community Grant Programme is aligned to our overarching Social Value Approach, which focuses on the benefits we deliver to wider society. As part of this, our Community Grant Programme aims to support local community initiatives that will deliver the greatest impact for those who need it the most.

Canary Wharf Group volunteers get to be farm hands for the day at Stepney City Farm

As part of CWG’s Volunteering Programme twenty-five of our development team spent the day supporting Stepney City Farm, a working farm and educational charity that improves the lives of the local community through access to farming, green spaces and growing beds and locally grown produce.

...

The volunteers enjoyed getting close to nature and supporting this much used and loved local resource. Farm duties included the mammoth task of sweeping the never-ending leaves in and around the courtyard area, the demolition of an out-building, whilst reclaiming the wood for reuse/repurposing to make space for new allotments and animal field, weeding, mulching and salvaging plant life for composting, not forget the grooming and petting of the animals!

For most the highlight was the feeding and grooming of the farm’s animals and the stars of the show were the wonderful pigs, Plum and Mars. Well done to all involved for their hard work and efforts, the farm appreciates and relies on the support of volunteers, and we were only too happy to help.
