Vertus Hits Milestone with Full Occupancy – 11.01.23

All of the Vertus buildings are now fully occupied as demand for rental property in London surges to new heights

Vertus, the residential leasing arm of Canary Wharf Group, is celebrating full occupancy across its three buildings following the unprecedented surge in demand for high-quality rental property in London in 2022.

Vertus launched Canary Wharf’s first ever residential building in 2020, with residents benefitting from all of the exciting aspects that make the private Estate a 15-minute city. With direct access to a wealth of independent and global brands, an array of delicious restaurants including Dishoom, Hawksmoor and Pergola on the Wharf, alongside incredible transport links, Canary Wharf has since established itself as a sought-after residential address.

Residents can also enjoy what is going on around the Estate with a culturally inspired, year-round art and events programme, including the popular Winter Lights festival and the UK’s largest free-to-visit award-winning public art collection. Added to this are 20 acres of landscaped parks, boardwalks and gardens, creating a sustainable community where people can live, work and play.

People choosing to live in a Vertus building benefit further by being part of a wider social community, known as Vertus Plus. This extensive programme of social events is organised by a dedicated in-house team and includes cooking masterclasses, cocktail making and a Wine Wednesday club. Each event has been designed to make it easier to meet like-minded people all year round.

Across all three buildings, residents have access to a private dining room, which can be booked for special occasions, gyms and areas with wide-screen TVs and games consoles, suited to a variety of different uses. A 24-hour concierge is in place to assist residents with enquiries and receive parcels, ensuring a seamless, safe and secure experience.

Vertus’s developments – 10 George Street, 8 Water Street and Newfoundland – together comprise 1,137 high-quality rental apartments each with their own selection of premium resident facilities tailored to the needs of modern renters. All three buildings have won multiple HomeViews awards, the UK’s only review site dedicated to residential property.

Ryan Mendy, a Vertus resident currently living at 8 Water Street, said: “How this place has developed and evolved is really quite mesmerising, especially as I grew up around here. The area has completely changed and now many of the tall buildings you see are residential and not just offices, like some people still think. The Estate has everything you need – any shop you want to go to, they’ve got one here.”

Alastair Mullens, Managing Director, Vertus said: “Since the launch of our first development, 10 George Street, we’ve had the opportunity to test the demand for rental properties on the Estate, and we can say with confidence that despite Covid and the current economic turbulence, the level and speed of take-up has been exceptional. Our residents are drawn to Vertus because of the quality of our buildings, the amenities offered as part of Vertus Plus, and the wealth of activities delivered by our in-house team as well as all the events held on the Estate throughout the year, making it a truly exceptional place to live.

“With the arrival of the Elizabeth line, offering fast links into west London and Heathrow, in addition to the Jubilee line, riverboat services and the DLR, all three buildings are conveniently positioned for those working locally or further afield, as well as frequent travellers. We’re pleased to have reached this important milestone with the help of our joint letting agents CBRE, Savills and Knight Frank and look forward to introducing a greater number of new rental buildings across a variety of tenures over the coming years.”

Vertus is currently developing three further apartment buildings across the Estate. Prices start from £1,700pcm, which includes access to the communal amenities, high-speed broadband and Samsung HD Smart TV with a TV licence.

About Vertus’ developments

10 George Street was the first build-to-rent development on the Canary Wharf estate, with the first residents moving in in February 2020. Comprised of 327 apartments ranging from studio to two-bedroom properties in a variety of layouts and sizes, 10 George Street offers extensive amenities including a lounge area with a TV, games consoles, pool table and board games, all designed to encourage social interaction within the building. The outdoor terrace with Med-style seating and day beds is equipped with a BBQ and heaters and offers dockside views of Harbour Quay Gardens. Located on the ground floor of the building is recently opened Emilia’s Crafted Pasta.

Vertus’ pet friendly development 8 Water Street (the first such development on the Estate), designed by renowned architects Stanton Williams, features 174 apartments in a mix of studio to three-bedroom homes. With a landscaped private garden overlooking South Dock and the floating pavilions of Water Square, 8 Water Street also benefits from a large roof terrace – the largest outdoor space in the Vertus portfolio. 8 Water Street offers state-of-the-art amenities, including a self-service bar with free vend bean-to-cup coffee machines and wine dispensers, a private dining room, a lounge area, co-working areas and private outdoor space.

Newfoundland, the most recent addition to the Vertus portfolio, launched in May 2021, comprising 636 modern apartments of different sizes and configurations, and boasting a distinguishable diagrid design, conceived by Horden Cherry Lee. The tallest build-to-rent building in the UK, reaching up 220m, Newfoundland offers uninterrupted views eastwards over Canary Wharf and Docklands and westwards towards the City and rest of the capital. Its landmark collection of 10 top-floor penthouses was recently launched to the public.

The building is home to an elegantly designed lounge and a games room, a west-facing terrace, BBQ, an outdoor children’s play area and a ‘kidult’ zone – a multifaceted work-play space, ideal for families. Newfoundland also benefits from a state-of-the-art gym and two gym studios, a private dining room, and a screening room with a wide-screen TV and games consoles. A 24-hour concierge is in place to assist residents with enquiries and receive parcels, ensuring a seamless, safe and secure experience.
