- Vertus Edit is to open its first aparthotel in February 2025 at Canary Wharf
Catering to the Wharf’s business and leisure visitors, 3 and 15 West Lane will provider 378 studios across two buildings, launching at a time when the aparthotel sector is experiencing significant demand.
The appeal of aparthotel stays has grown significantly in the post-pandemic era, thanks to a unique blend of home-like amenities with hotel-like services. Guests at 3 and 15 West Lane can expect the same outstanding levels of service that Vertus – the residential rental arm of Canary Wharf Group – has established a reputation for across its portfolio of Build-to-Rent (BTR) buildings.
With visitor numbers to Canary Wharf at an all-time high (67.2 million people visited during 2023, a 25% increase on 2022), 3 and 15 West Lane offers a more flexible choice for those looking to stay on the Estate, providing the ideal base from which to do business or enjoy a leisure stay or a mix of both.
Canary Wharf’s vibrant mixed-use community aims to offer an extraordinary environment to all those who work, live, and visit with lots of amenities, green spaces, access to water, art and cultural events.
A new offer
The studios at 3 and 15 West Lane range from 15 sqm – 32 sqm and provide a bathroom, kitchenette, sleeping area and wardrobe.
Guests also benefit from spaces including a number of lounges and terraces, bookable meeting rooms, co-working space, dining rooms, laundry rooms and a gym. Furthermore, guests can take advantage of a curate programme of events organised by a dedicated in-house team. Each event has been designed to make it easier to meet like-minded people.
It’s all here
ASAP’s recent data reveals that the burgeoning aparthotel market is comprised of business travellers (45%), followed by tourists (27%), and professionals relocating to the UK (23%). The sector caters to both domestic and international guests (59% to 41% ratio), and these visitors will be able to enjoy all that the Estate now offers.
The Wharf is home to a flourishing and diverse food and beverage scene: recently opened restaurants include Marceline, Kricket, Roe and Mallow with more to come this summer including Hovarda.
For leisure, the Estate offers an eclectic range of activities, including a colourful minigolf course, the UK’s fastest electric go-karts at Capital Karts, GoBoat, which invites guests to soak up the sun by cruising through the tranquil docks, and open water swimming. FairGame, a fairground-inspired competitive socialising venue, and Padium, a premium padel club, add further to the extensive choice of amenities.
Wider amenities at Canary Wharf include 310 shops, the UK’s largest outdoor free-to-visit award-winning public art collection, and over 100 culturally inspired events each year, most of which are free to attend including the popular Winter Lights festival.
World class transport and location
With access to quality transport connections a key driver for the aparthotel market, Canary Wharf visitors are served by the Elizabeth Line, DLR and Jubilee lines, which means central London can be accessed within 15 minutes via direct services. London City Airport and Heathrow Airport can be reached via direct services in 15 and 45 minutes respectively.
The new aparthotel boasts an enviable location that is ideal for both business and leisure activities. In addition to the amenities at Canary Wharf, 3 & 15 West Lane is situated close to iconic venues such as The O2 Arena and the ExCel London, offering easy access to world-class entertainment, conferences, and exhibitions, making it an ideal choice for professionals and tourists alike.
Freya Richard, Director of Leasing & Operations at Vertus, said:
“The launch of 3 and 15 West Lane is the next step in the hugely exciting and ongoing evolution of the Wharf. With Vertus’ BTR portfolio fully leased up, adding Vertus Edit and a new aparthotel at 3 and 15 West Lane gives business and leisure visitors who are looking to stay on a flexible, short-term basis another choice. Benefiting from our events programme e and surrounded by green and blue spaces, some of London’s best new restaurants, incredible transportation across London and to surrounding airports, you couldn’t be better placed to experience everything that the Wharf has to offer. This latest proposition builds on the success of the residential offer at Canary Wharf, which is now home to more than 3,500 residents, and adds a short stay offering to the Vertus portfolio.”
Fully anticipating the needs of business travellers, Vertus is keen to engage with the business travel industry. The aparthotel will soon be available on Global Distribution Systems (GDS), and preferential rates will be offered via the major consortia programmes, ensuring easy booking and connectivity for travel management companies and corporate travel planners worldwide. There is no minimum stay requirements ensuring the aparthotel is attractive to both short and mid-term stays.
The aparthotel will be managed by Vertus Edit, part of Canary Wharf Group’s residential rental arm Vertus.
