Summer Festival Set to Shine Through Screens for the First Time – 18.06.20

With many missing the inevitable joy that summer festivals provide, Canary Wharf is helping to fill the void this year by streaming its annual Midsummer Festival for the first time. Those looking to celebrate the height of the season, can do so virtually with Canary Wharf’s packed programme of free online events, that have been designed with sunshine and summer traditions in mind.

Rise and shine

To celebrate the start of the day, Secret Sunrise London will be running a guided dance session from 9am that is sure to get attendees moving and invigorated for the day ahead. Ordinarily a silent-disco style session set on streets across the globe, this unique version of Secret Sunrise aims to get guests out of their comfort zone by moving and twirling, whilst connecting with the online community.

Those interested in participating, should book their place with Eventbrite to receive dial in details for the Zoom session.

Daytime DIY

Following the morning session, daytime activities will include colourful and hands-on experiences, where participants are encouraged to design and create using the British summertime as inspiration. Firstly, a bunting making session will invite participants to create their own decorative triangles from home and help ensure their garden décor is synonymous with the season.

And to help create the iconic festival-goer look, guests will be shown how to do natural tie dye with household items, as well as how to design paper floral crowns for that perfect sun-inspired accessory. Printable templates and step-by-step guides are available for download now to help visitors plan ahead for creating these items on the day.

Living Room Line-up

To complete the festival feeling, live music will be broadcast directly to screens through Canary Wharf’s Instagram channel (@canarywharflondon). Every hour, from 12pm to 4pm, emerging talent will fill your room with tunes, creating a buzz that only live music can provide. Expect eloquent jazz from Chelsea Blues, catchy folk-pop from Lucy May Walker, soulful sessions from Renato Paris, and more from this living room line-up.

Serving up festi-favourites

As showstopping street food is a festival staple, some of Canary Wharf’s most celebrated restaurants will be serving up recipes and DIY kits for those tuning in. Recreate iconic vegan burgers with a Vurger Co Meal kit, try your hand at sourdough pizza with Franco Manca’s online recipe, a DIY home Poké kit from Island Poké or some delicious Mexican with recipes from Wahaca. Also on the menu is The Athenian, who will broadcast online cookery classes through their Instagram, to teach the tantalising tricks of Greek cuisine
