Belvedere Gardens, Southbank Place, secured the Bronze Award in the Best Luxury Development Category at the 2022 What House Awards
At a ceremony hosted by former Leader of the Conservative Party William Hague and England Rugby World Cup winner and broadcaster Maggie Alphonsi, the What House Awards recognise the very best new homes, developers and industry leaders across the UK.
The winners of the Best Luxury Development Award were decided by a panel of expert judges, who carried out a rigorous assessment, including in person site visits. The judges highlighted the building’s exceptional design, unique aspects and well-configured living spaces as key reasons behind Belvedere Gardens’ success at this year’s event.
Completed in 2019, Belvedere Gardens has been inspired by the Festival of Britain, which was held on the site in 1951. The visually striking exterior, designed by GRID Architects, pays homage to the festival’s emblem, the ‘Festival Star’, which is embossed and debossed across the façade. The mixture of light and bronze colour panels also echo the Shell Centre and nearby Palace of Westminster, giving the building a true sense of belonging on the South Bank.
Setting the standard, the entrance lobby is a grand double-height space punctuated by marble floors, plush carpeting and dark oak wood panelling. A solid white marble concierge desk welcomes visitors, whilst a feature stone sculpture, designed in-keeping with the Festival Star theme, juts out from the wall to create an impressive feature. Accentuating the ceiling height, a spectacular bespoke contemporary chandelier drapes down into the centre of the room.
The interiors have been conceived by specialists Goddard Littlefair, with designs that maximise the living spaces and accentuate the views. Fixtures and fittings are consistent with the character of the building, including bronze feature door handles, bronze-finished Dornbracht mixer-taps and bespoke chandeliers, all of which have been exclusively handcrafted for Belvedere Gardens to create one-of-a-kind homes.
Residents of Belvedere Gardens will also benefit from access to the 17,000 sq. ft. health facility that will cater the wider Southbank Place development. Also designed by Goddard Littlefair, the amenities space includes a 25 metre swimming pool, his and hers steam and sauna rooms, expansive gymnasium with specialist workout rooms, relaxation pods and a hair and beauty studio.
Richard Oakes, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at Qatari Diar, said: “To see Southbank Place honoured at a leading industry award ceremony is a fantastic achievement that is testament to the work of the entire project team. The development has opened a popular part of the South Bank and provided exceptional homes to those that want to live in a prime location overlooking the River Thames.”
Brian De’ath, Managing Director of Residential Sales at Canary Wharf Group, commented: “Belvedere Gardens is one of the most luxurious residential buildings in London, so to see it recognised within in the industry is very satisfying. Southbank Place has proven to be popular with a mixture of buyers that have bought into the location, design and prominence of living at such an iconic development.
