Sophie Goddard appointed Chair of the BPF Sustainability Committee – 16.09.24

The British Property Federation (BPF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sophie Goddard as the new Chair of the BPF Sustainability Committee, effective this Autumn. As Director of Sustainability at Canary Wharf Group, Sophie brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in driving environmental progress and sustainability in the built environment to the committee.

With over a decade of experience, Sophie previously led sustainability across the UK for the regional and specialist businesses within Balfour Beatty, the UK’s largest contractor and has also spent time in the retail industry where she led programmes to deliver sustainable outcomes in the Far East. In July 2022, Sophie was included in BISNOW’s prestigious Women Leading Real Estate List, recognising the work that she has done in putting sustainability at the heart of the Canary Wharf community. With over 10 years of experience in a variety of roles and sectors, Sophie firmly believes that the private sector has a key role to play in responding to the climate crisis in a way which creates healthy and prosperous places to work, live and thrive.

As Chair of the BPF Sustainability Committee, Sophie will help to lead and co-ordinate the BPF’s sustainability work, which includes work on energy security, energy efficiency, decarbonising buildings and ensuring buildings are resilient to the impact of climate change, and protecting and restoring nature.

Sophie Goddard, new Chair of the BPF Sustainability Committee, said:

“I am deeply honoured to be asked to take on the role of Chair of the BPF Sustainability Committee at such a pivotal time for the property industry. Our sector has a critical role to play in tackling climate change and helping the new Government meet its net zero ambitions.

“The challenges we face in decarbonising and adapting our buildings cannot be understated. However, I know there is huge progress being made right across the industry and I look forward to working closely with the BPF to accelerate progress and ensure that the sector’s voice on sustainability is heard and respected.

“I would like to thank Katherine Sherwin at Blackrock, the departing Chair, for all her hard work over the last few years and I look forward to continue working with Mat Lown from TFT, the current Vice Chair, and all our excellent committee members.”
