Skating at Light Speed – LuminoCity launches at Ice Rink Canary Wharf – 03.11.16

Canary Wharf is unveiling London’s first ever animated LED ice rink. Located in Canada Square Park, the illuminated ice rink opens on Friday 4th November and runs until Saturday 25th February 2017. Featuring a grid of 8km of LED lights built into the ice, LuminoCity at Ice Rink Canary Wharf will provide a stunning festive atmosphere for guests to enjoy.

With 16 million different colours to play with, the twinkling light display interacts with music for a truly immersive experience, and at over 1125m2, Ice Rink Canary Wharf will be one of the largest ice rinks in the capital. The LED lights can be programmed to create limitless moving patterns and designs adding a unique kinetic dimension to the ice. Brightening up your winter, skate marshals clad in LED suits complete the illuminations.

Open 7 days a week, except for Christmas Day, Ice Rink Canary Wharf launches in time to host Christmas parties and festive celebrations. Covered by a spectacular illuminated canopy, the ice rink will come into its own at night, creating the perfect party atmosphere for guests to enjoy whatever the weather. The ice rink welcomes families and is also the perfect venue for a romantic date or fun night out with friends.

An on-site bar will provide delicious winter warmers including mulled wine and cider, as well as a selection of cocktails, wines and craft ales. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, skaters can take a time out to sample the delectable dishes on offer. The venue is also available for party hire for both adults and children.

Ajay Teli, Head of Strategic Communications, Canary Wharf Group says: “Ice Rink Canary Wharf has stepped up the drama with an exciting and unique light installation. Its innovative design is the first of its kind in London and it will provide a sensational atmosphere for our visitors. We really wanted to push the boundaries this year and give people something new. Once guests have perfected their moves on the rink they can take advantage of our extended Christmas shopping hours and plethora of bars and restaurants.”
