Canary Wharf Group’s One Park Drive has won two British Homes Awards, including the coveted prize of Architect of the Year, whilst also being named a finalist in two further categories.
The landmark building, designed by world-renowned architects, Herzog & de Meuron, represents not only a globally significant piece of architecture for London, but also the very best of 21st century urban waterside living at Canary Wharf’s new neighbourhood, Wood Wharf.
Alongside Architect of the Year, One Park Drive was crowned Development of the Year, as well as being named a finalist in the Best Interior Design and Apartment Development of the Year categories.
The British Homes Awards honour every aspect of housebuilding, spanning architectural and interior design, build quality and innovation, across a variety of projects, including one-off houses and major developments. Awards categories cover housing partnerships, regeneration schemes, community-led projects, home interiors, smart homes, landscaping and sustainability.
Commenting on One Park Drive, the award judges said: “One Park Drive, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, is the signature building of the new district and one of London’s most distinctive residential towers. Positioned on a prominent dockside plot on Wood Wharf, the new neighbourhood of Canary Wharf, One Park Drive represents a unique architectural achievement, which has been designed to be the very best in city and waterside living.
“One of the most challenging building types to construct, the circular, geometric form was chosen to clearly distinguish itself from the commercial buildings of Canary Wharf, meaning it cannot be mistaken for anything other than a place where people live. The four distinctive zones on the outside reflect how well the living spaces work on the inside.”
Comprising 483 apartments over 58 storeys characterised by four different typologies – the lower Loft, middle Cluster, upper Bay apartments and Panoramic penthouses – One Park Drive also offers state-of-the-art amenities designed by GA Design, split over the ground and first floors. Residents benefit from a sophisticated entrance lobby with 24-hour concierge services; library, cinema room and lounge on the ground floor, whilst the first floor houses an exclusive residents-only health club.
Brian De’ath, Managing Director of Residential Sales at Canary Wharf Group said: “One Park Drive is an iconic building that has already become an instantly recognizable part of London’s skyline due to its unique architecture. Due to the prominence of its position, at the entrance to Canary Wharf’s new residential neighbourhood, we wanted to create a signature building that would act as a marker for the wider residential offering across the Estate. These awards will be added to others already secured this year, capping an outstanding period and further demonstrating One Park Drive’s credentials as a truly outstanding residential address.”
Wood Wharf is a new 23-acre neighbourhood within the Canary Wharf estate, which will comprise up to 3,600 new homes, 350,000 sq. ft. of shops and restaurants, 2 million sq. ft. of office space, a new NHS doctor’s surgery and two-form primary school. Amongst this will sit lively high streets, green public spaces and walkways. Residents will benefit from a year-round programme of arts, music, sport and events, many of which are free.
