Hovarda Announces Second Location – 10.01.24

  • Hovarda is delighted to announce that its second restaurant, Hovarda Canary Wharf, will launch aboard a floating pavilion in the heart of Wood Wharf later this year.

Hovarda first launched in Soho in 2017, combining delicious Aegean food with a sense of fun, introducing a new style of dining to London.  The term ‘hovarda’ playfully references a generous host with a free spirit and Hovarda is renowned for showcasing the very best of Mediterranean hospitality.  The new 139-cover restaurant and terrace will occupy the water level deck of a purpose-built pavilion situated on the water right at the centre of Wood Wharf.

Hovarda’s menu is comprised of an amalgamation of dishes inspired by the sun-kissed coastlines of Greece and Turkey.  The menu focuses on a light range of family-style hot and cold meze plates followed by main dishes showcasing produce from land and sea.  Saganaki, barrel aged feta wrapped in kataifi, drenched in truffle honey and topped with basil, is a must try starter. There are plenty of other light options, including taramasalata with bottarga and dill and the freshest tuna tartare served with avocado, cashews and petimizi.

Traditional Greek and Turkish ingredients are evident throughout the menu. Signature dishes include red prawn orzo with a bisque sauce, chilli oil and marjoram, octopus served over a fava bean puree with onion and fennel marmalade, and a traditional lamb kleftiko with sauteed oyster mushrooms.

DJ’s from around the world will take control later in the evening to really get things going, playing into the early hours and ensuring that Hovarda Canary Wharf becomes a must-visit destination for partying.

The beautiful space has been designed by Cousi Interiorismo of Madrid with splashes of sea green and blue that bring the sultry spirit of the Aegean together with wood panelling and rich fabrics. Hovarda Canary Wharf will feature a communal kitchen island, a cosy mix of banquettes and sofa seating set throughout the room and an eight-metre bar counter facing the DJ, creating a luxurious room specifically designed for sharing food and enjoying music.

Hovarda’s impressive bar serves an expansive list of spirits and classic and signature cocktails inspired by Mediterranean notes. From Bellinis and Caipirinhas to its Mykonos Sour, Hovarda has created a drinks menu inspired by travels throughout Greece and Turkey using ingredients such as citrus fruit, basil, cinnamon, and honey. The cocktail list will feature reinvented classics and well-known cocktails with a touch of Aegean charm, and will of course feature raki, a Turkish staple spirit.

GQ – Best Bars in London, March 2023 ,“An average night at Hovarda starts at 8pm, snacking delicately on courgette fritters, wood-fired artichokes and salty pitta, alongside a glass of Sancerre rosé on one of the beautiful red velvet banquettes flanking the decks. Come 10pm, it’s time for Meraki Mules and Yuzu Margaritas as the DJ spins world house and well-heeled millennials start trance dancing. This is the kind of bar you could lose yourself in.

Stuart Fyfe, MD Retail Leasing, Canary Wharf Group notes, “After my first visit to Hovarda in Soho, I knew Canary Wharf needed a stylish, late-night venue to enhance our vibrant dining and nightlife scene. Their delicious food, creative cocktails, DJ entertainment and chic crowd are sure to be a hit. They’ll soon begin construction on a stunning Spanish-designed interior, drawing inspiration from the Aegean. The autumn opening will complement the diverse restaurants we’ve welcomed to Wood Wharf – Dishoom, Hawksmoor, Mercato Metropolitano, Roe, Mallow and Emilia’s Pasta – and promises to be a major event.
