DARKFIELD: Award-Winning Multi-Sensory Immersive Experience Comes to Canary Wharf – 03.10.22

  • Three immersive 360-degree binaural experiences will be hosted at Montgomery Square from 12th October
  • Flight, Coma and Eulogy will take place in shipping containers
  • DARKFIELD has been a highlight of major film festivals including Tribeca Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival

Award-winning immersive theatre producer DARKFIELD is returning to Canary Wharf this October with three intense and deeply thought provoking shows open to the public from 12 to 23 October. The exhilarating experiences put audience members at the centre of evolving narratives, heightening their senses whilst mentally transporting them away from reality.

DARKFIELD uses technology and theatre to create striking sets in shipping containers where binaural 360-degree sound, complete darkness and a variety of effects makes up three multi-sensory experiences. Audience members will be plunged into pitch black darkness and told to let go of their reality as they dive deep into the unknown.

The series of innovative experiences – Eulogy, Flight and Coma – each run for around half an hour and have been designed to stimulate the senses. They can be attended by all those over the age of 14.

  • EULOGY

EULOGY is a surreal journey through a dreamlike, labyrinthine hotel that exists entirely in your mind. How you arrived is a mystery and why you are there remains unclear.

Performed over 35 minutes in complete darkness, this intense and exhilarating ride uses 360-degree binaural sound and speech recognition technology to transport audience members through rooms, down corridors and into the bowels of this strange and not altogether comfortable hotel.

EULOGY was funded by Digital Catapult after DARKFIELD was selected to be part of their Creative XR programme in 2020.

  • COMA

Imagine the moment of waking up is actually the moment when your dream begins. In light of this new and strange reality, how can we save you from the unspeakable horrors which lurk in the dark recesses of your mind? The only cure we offer is a placebo and a promise. Please remember when you leave to take your body with you.

Distorting the barriers between being awake and asleep, visitors are counted down into a deep coma and are confronted with the darkest elements of the mind. Over 30 minutes, the audience is invited to take part in a mass experiment, to lie down together and imagine a new collective reality

  • FLIGHT

Ladies and gentlemen, we’d like to direct your attention to the on-board safety demonstration and ask that you give us your full attention. In the unlikely event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure alternative scenarios will be provided… Neither Heaven nor Hell is assured. We’re not responsible for your final destination.

The 40ft FLIGHT container’s interior exactly resembles an Airbus 320 economy cabin and over 30 minutes transports audience members into two parallel worlds: two realities offering two possible outcomes to their journey.

DARKFIELD have been featured in major film festivals such as the BFI London Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival, IDFA, Tribeca Film Festival, Raindance Film Festival, SXSW and in 2021 won Columbia’s Digital Storytelling Lab’s Breakthrough Award in recognition of the year’s most innovative narrative.

Performance dates:

  • Wednesday 12 – Sunday 16 October, various times, 12noon – 8.30pm
  • Wednesday 19 – Sunday 23 October, various times, 12noon – 8.30pm

The collection of shows is suitable for audiences over the ages of 14. If you are claustrophobic, suffer from PTSD, or could be triggered by coma or medical related themes, we advise you not to attend.
