Country Roads Take Me to Canary Wharf – 11.07.17

Free country music festival, Nashville Meets London, back by popular demand

Don your Stetson and your cowboy boots as sounds of the south will once again fill the air at Canary Wharf this summer with the return of the highly anticipated Nashville Meets London – a free two-day country music festival.

Now in its second year, the festival is on its way to becoming a firm fixture in London’s music calendar and this July will showcase established and exciting new talent from the heart of country music, Nashville, Tennessee and the UK.

Headline act, US singer-songwriter Russell Dickerson, will take centre stage on Saturday evening. The Nashville native is best-known for his single Yours, which debuted at #2 in the iTunes country store. He will be joined by the plucky sounds of Devon trio Wildwood Kin and Scottish band Raintown.

UK artist Lucie Silvas will headline the Sunday evening. With a career spanning over two decades, she has worked and toured with legendary artists, including the likes of Elton John, Tom Jones and James Bay. Also performing on Sunday will be Ashley Campbell, daughter of legendary Country star Glen Campbell, as well as Angaleena Presley and Sam Outlaw, amongst others.

Young country-inspired artists such as Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus have brought country music to the top of the agenda. In the US the music has been the most popular among American adults for several years in a row on the radio, and now we’re seeing it influence our style choices as embroidery, fringing and suede all graced the SS17 catwalk.

Country music lovers can make the most of Canary Wharf’s wide variety of bars and restaurants nearby, including numerous American dining options such as American-inspired and London favourites The Big Easy, Shake Shack and The Breakfast Club.

Nashville Meets London is part of Canary Wharf’s Arts + Events programme which offers tenants and visitors over 200 diverse and culturally inspired events. From outdoor theatre, live concerts, sporting events, fashion shows, dance performances, global street food and family friendly shows, the majority of these events are free for the public. With a fantastic line-up of activities and eateries, Canary Wharf is the perfect destination for a great day out.

Sian Astrop, Head of Arts + Events, Canary Wharf Group, said: “This year’s Nashville Meets London event is gearing up to be a foot stomping celebration of all things country. We are looking forward to welcoming a new group of American music artists to our summer stage in Canada Square Park this year and hope that they, along with the audience, enjoy the festival as well as their time here at Canary Wharf.”

Nashville Meets London is co-produced by Canary Wharf Arts + Events, Peter Conway Management and Nashville-based agency, The AristoMedia Group. Baylen Leonard, BBC Radio 2 Country DJ, is the artistic program consultant. The event is sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD).”
