Construction Begins on Sea Lanes Canary Wharf, London’s New Floating Natural Water Swimming Pool – 03.02.26

Construction is now underway on Sea Lanes Canary Wharf, a new floating, natural water swimming pool set within Eden Dock, following the granting of planning permission earlier this year.

Developed and operated by the team behind Sea Lanes Brighton, the UK’s first National Open Water Swimming Centre, Sea Lanes Canary Wharf will introduce a unique, year-round outdoor swimming and wellbeing destination in the heart of London.

The approved development includes a 50-metre, six-lane floating swimming pool set directly within the dock water, two saunas powered by 100% renewable energy, and a community clubhouse hosting year-round wellness events. The site will also feature an exciting food and beverage offering and retail space, including a wetsuit concierge service.

Designed to be open 364 days a year and accessible to swimmers of all ages and abilities, the pool will primarily cater for lane swimming and act as a vital stepping stone between traditional pool swimming and open water. Both pay-per-swim and membership options will be available.

Located within the recently regenerated Eden Dock, the facility will enable Londoners to swim in clear, natural water while reconnecting with nature in a highly urban environment. The water in Eden Dock is tested regularly to EU Bathing Standards and consistently achieves an “Excellent” rating.

Joe McNulty, Director at Sea Lanes, said: “Starting construction at Sea Lanes Canary Wharf is a hugely exciting milestone for us. This project will bring the physical and mental health benefits of open water swimming to the very centre of London. Sea Lanes Canary Wharf will be far more than a place to swim – it will be an inclusive urban sanctuary that promotes wellbeing, community and connection with nature.”

Stuart Fyfe, Managing Director, Retail, Leisure and Hospitality at Canary Wharf Group, added: “Sea Lanes Canary Wharf is an incredibly exciting, unique addition to our diverse mix of leisure and wellness amenities.  A natural extension of our work with the Eden Project on transforming Eden Dock, the space will provide an unparalleled opportunity for Londoners to experience the benefits of outdoor swimming in a safe, accessible environment. We’re proud to partner with the Sea Lanes team to create a destination that enhances wellbeing, fosters community and brings people from all over London, closer to nature right here in Canary Wharf.”

Construction will continue through 2026, with Sea Lanes Canary Wharf scheduled to open in Summer 2026.
