Canary Wharf Opens Its (Out)Doors – 12.04.21

Canary Wharf has today re-opened its non-essential shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants to a capital keen to experience life out of lockdown.

Those after a taste of the great outdoors need look no further, as Canary Wharf transforms a vast selection of its renowned restaurants and bars into a tantalising alfresco experience. After months of closure, over 40 of the Estate’s most delicious dining destinations will be reopening with alfresco seating, all within a stone’s throw and fit for any palate.

For a taste of America this side of the Atlantic, head to Big Easy’s terrace where you’ll find upbeat blues, unbeatable city views and lip-licking barbecue food. For those after their first freshly poured pint, BrewDog Canary Wharf will be dishing out thirst-quenching craft beers to tables overlooking the historic waterways and docks. Further, for anyone eager to taste expertly curated worldly cuisine, ROKA will be serving up Japanese classics on the terrace overlooking Canada Square Park.

The open-aired eateries will be accepting outdoor bookings over the coming weeks, including the likes of Humble Grape, Bar Bolivar, 640 East and Ibérica, alongside brunch showstopper The Breakfast Club and desirable drinking spots such as The Grandstand Bar set in Canada Square Park.

As the restrictions ease, it’s also the perfect time to swap-out that lockdown wardrobe and enjoy the IRL experience of shopping in-store. Canary Wharf boasts a wide range of stores, meaning fashion seekers can find that dress to impress for the alfresco season. Shoppers can browse collections from high-end high street labels such as Maje and The Kooples or throw on a more casual look with high-street favourites COS, Mango and Zara.

Visitors to Canary Wharf can also expect a packed summer events programme this year, including movie nights in the park, outdoor music concerts and bright and bold summer family festivals. Further, the Estate will welcome brand new pop-ups, captivating artist collaborations and the opening of London’s newest Mercato Metropolitano and Pergola – creating the best spot in the capital for a selection of international food, craft beers and cocktails. Canary Wharf is the ultimate 15-minute city with everything you want within a short walk.

Canary Wharf is committed to keeping the malls and wider Estate covid secure. COVID-19 safety measures, such as one-way systems and floor markings, as well as increased cleaning, and hand sanitizers at all entrance points, remain in place throughout.

All developments to the Estate are done so with the environment in mind and Canary Wharf remains dedicated to sustainability. It has been zero-waste to landfill since 2009 and its energy has been 100% renewable since 2012.

Leanne Peters, Director of Marketing, Canary Wharf Group, said: “It’s been a long wait for Londoners, including our bar and restaurant staff and retailers, but we are all incredibly excited to open once again and help visitors reconnect with their loved ones and the capital. The incredible selection of delicious alfresco dining spots means that friends and families can catch-up in bars and restaurants fit for any taste, surrounded by the captivating city views.

Whilst maintaining a covid-secure environment Estate-wide and throughout our malls, we’ve also made Canary Wharf the perfect destination for people to have a taste of normality once again. Whether it’s a day of restaurants or retail therapy, visitors can divulge in a delicious bite or browse the non-essential retail shops, that feature some of this season’s best collections just in time for the spring/summer socials. We also have some great outdoor gardens and open-air spaces throughout the Estate, offering some perfect spots to wind down after a day on your feet.”
