Canary Wharf Group secures planning for new student accommodation at Wood Wharf – 14.05.25

The Greater London Authority (GLA) approves plans from Canary Wharf Group (CWG) for a new purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme at 7 Brannan Street in Wood Wharf. The proposed development will deliver 912 bedrooms and is part of the neighbourhood’s continued evolution seeing students join the 3,500 people already living at Canary Wharf.

The 46-storey building, designed by Howells, includes a host of amenity, communal, and leisure spaces at ground, mezzanine, ninth and roof levels complemented by a new ground floor retail offer and two new high-quality waterside public gardens.

Tom Venner, Chief Development Officer for Canary Wharf Group, said: “7 Brannan Street will be a fantastic addition to the diverse range of residential offerings at Canary Wharf. We are already home to world-leading education and learning facilities, including the UCL School of Management operating from One Canada Square. This building will help meet the demand for modern, high-quality accommodation located within a metropolitan environment offering a rich mix of retail, leisure, hospitality and green spaces for students to enjoy.”

The residential offer at Canary Wharf continues to expand with a mix of private for sale, private rent, affordable, hotel and a new aparthotel which opened earlier this year.

7 Brannan Street sits within a vibrant and established residential community providing access to a thriving offer of retail, hospitality, leisure and sport uses as well as grocery stores, pharmacies, health clubs and large green and blue spaces including Eden Dock all within 15 minutes’ walk.
