Canary Wharf Celebrates Chanukah – 22.12.17

To celebrate the Jewish festival of Chanukah, Canary Wharf Group installed a large Menorah in Canary Wharf’s Jubilee Park. To mark the occasion, an additional light was switched on every night from Tuesday 12th December up to and including Tuesday 19th December to celebrate each of the eight nights of the festival.

Chanukah, ‘The Festival of Lights’ is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the re-dedication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, during the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire of the 2nd century BC.

On Wednesday 13th December, Clifford Chance hosted a candle lighting ceremony. In addition, Citi hosted a communal candle lighting ceremony next to the Menorah on Monday 18th December, followed by refreshments, singing and entertainment by London Cantorial Singers at Citi offices. Ending the weeks’ celebrations, KPMG sponsored a candle lighting celebration along with refreshments and entertainment at its offices on Tuesday 19th December.

Members of the local Jewish community, employees, tenants and visitors were invited to the festive occasion.

Danny Seliger from Canary Wharf Group said: “The lighting of the Menorah offers a great opportunity for members of the local community to come together with those on the Estate and celebrate this festive moment in the Jewish calendar. We are very appreciative to the local companies that have shown their support and would recommend everyone to experience Chanukah at Canary Wharf.”
