On Monday 6th June, Clifford Chance and Canary Wharf Group plc held their annual celebration of the Jewish festival of ‘Shavuot’ in Canary Wharf. Widely attended each year, this year’s celebrations attracted a host of members from various Jewish Centres, including the elderly, the East London Synagogues Association, employees from the Canary Wharf Estate and the Menorah Primary School Choir.
This year’s pre-Shavuot celebration included a lunch, a performance from the Menorah Primary School Choir, a guest speaker and mincha. Shavuot, or ‘Feast of Weeks’, marks the completion of the seven-week counting period between Passover and Shavuot, which commemorates the anniversary of the day that God gave the Torah to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai. It is customary to celebrate the occasion by consuming dairy foods like milk, cheese and cheesecake, as well as decorating homes and synagogues with greenery and flowers. This year, the festival begins on the evening of Saturday 11th June and ends on the evening of Monday 13th June.
