BUMP Rollerdisco Pops Up at Canary Wharf – 18.04.16

Dazzling lights and retro tunes will transform Canary Wharf this month as BUMP Rollerdisco pops up at Montgomery Square. BUMP’s wooden-floored mobile Rollerdisco will be in Canary Wharf from Friday 22 April – Sunday 8 May 2016.

BUMP’s exciting line up of guest and resident DJs will be providing the music – expect a mixture of old-school tunes, pop, rock, hip hop, funk, soul and of course, disco, paying homage to the roller disco’s golden era – all of which will be sure to get skaters in the mood for some moves on the dance floor.

Previously at London’s Southbank Centre, BUMP travels the country with its mobile Rollerdisco, turning spaces into an experience of energy and skills, arriving in Canary Wharf in time for the bank holiday weekend.

For those who feel slightly wobbly on their wheels, Roller Boys & Girls will be on hand to offer expert assistance.

Skates are available in a range of sizes – from children’s size 8 to adult size 14 – and are included in the cost of the tickets. For an additional cost, visitors can pimp up the style stakes and choose from an array of swanky glitter and light up skates.

The Rollerdisco provides fun for all the family and is suitable for children aged three and up, whilst adults only sessions are run from 9pm daily.

Roller Fitness Workouts

A Rollerdisco with a difference, visitors can also enjoy the UK’s first Roller Fitness workout created exclusively for Canary Wharf by Marawa’s Majorettes – a glittering troupe of roller skaters – and BUMP.

A routine of epic proportions combining the art of skating and fitness, these unique classes are suitable for all abilities and are guaranteed to get the blood pumping and the heart racing.

Eager roller skaters will learn a series of expert moves, including ‘shoot the duck’ which requires a serious combination of balance and length strength as you bend all the way to the floor and glide on one foot whilst kicking out the other foot completely forward. Skaters will also practise their ‘lemons’ and work their inner thighs as they make a series of these zesty fruit shapes on the dancefloor.

There are two free sessions available over the early May bank holiday weekend; the first will take place on Friday 29 April 4-5pm and the second on Saturday 30 April 10-11am.

Lucie Moore, Arts+Events Manager, Canary Wharf Group said: “We’re excited to have teamed up with BUMP and Marawa’s Majorettes to bring the UK’s first Roller Fitness workout to Canary Wharf. We’re constantly striving to offer visitors an exciting line up of events and this new take on fitness does just that.
