2020: The Year Canary Wharf’s new district Wood Wharf Comes to Life – 24.02.20

For the last 30 years, Canary Wharf has been a thriving centre for business and culture that has shifted London’s centre of gravity east. And now the most exciting evolution in the Estate’s history has begun – the creation of the new mixed-use district. This year, Canary Wharf’s new district Wood Wharf will come to life, as its first residents get ready to make Canary Wharf their home.

Wood Wharf, the new neighbourhood, will blend living, working, life and leisure upon nine acres of reclaimed land. Masterplanned by Allies and Morrison, this waterside community will be defined by its vibrant public realm, amenities and striking architecture, complementing the existing Canary Wharf estate, yet with its own distinct character and sense of place. Global corporations and tech unicorns will rub shoulders with start-ups, SMEs, co-working, retail experiences, residential streets and arts and cultural events.

Wood Wharf’s careful masterplanning will provide up to 3,600 new homes, nearly 2 million sq.ft. of office space, 350,000 sq. ft, of hand-picked retail spread throughout lively high streets and boutique arcades. This sits among a wealth of welcoming natural landscaping, creating the ideal ecology for social interaction, new ideas, collaborations and enterprise to come to fruition.

This year, the face of Canary Wharf will change forever, as Wood Wharf welcomes its first homeowners and rental tenants. 10 Park Drive, the very first residential building to be constructed on the Estate, will welcome 70 homeowners in summer, marking a turning point for the privately owned Estate. Designed by Stanton Williams and with interiors by award-winning Make Architects, 10 Park Drive has successfully sold 80% of its 345 apartments, with the remaining apartments available to purchase from £880,000.

Residents of 10 Park Drive will have access to a secluded “oasis in the city”; a terraced sky garden on the 13th floor. With bookable facilities and free use of shared spaces, this sophisticated residents’ club provides an elegant space for residents to relax, socialise and entertain. Purchasers will also have access to a new, state-of-the-art Third Space fitness club, with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and fitness class studio.

Adjacent to 10 Park Drive at the head of the dock is One Park Drive, Wood Wharf’s signature residential building. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, this geometric tower offers the best in city and riverside living, and all apartments will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding docklands and wider London. Here, homeowners can take advantage of 24-hour hotel style concierge services and dedicated amenities, including a residents’ only health club and gym, cinema room, lounge and elegant entrance lobby.

Only 32% of homes at One Park Drive remain, with one-bedroom apartments in the Cluster typology available from £840,000. One Park Drive’s first residents are expected to move in during Q4 2020.

It’s not just buyers that can make Canary Wharf their home. This year, Wood Wharf will welcome its first residential tenants through its new residential leasing and management company, Vertus. Vertus’ first development, 10 George Street, is opening its doors to its first occupants in February, with apartments from £1,950 per month.

Wood Wharf will also offer a range of amenities needed to support a thriving community that will endure long into the future. These include a new NHS doctor’s surgery and school, whilst the arrival of Crossrail will improve connectivity for residents commuting across the capital.

In the near future, residents and visitors alike can expect to take advantage of Canary Wharf’s existing retail and leisure offerings, including recent additions such as The Alchemist, Electric Shuffle, Humble Grape and No.35 Mackenzie Walk, as well as confirmed signings to Wood Wharf, including Gails, Pedler and a Third Space gym.

Brian De’ath, Director of Residential Sales at Canary Wharf Group, comments; “2020 is the year the Canary Wharf estate welcomes its first residents, a real milestone in the development of the area. From now on, you will start to see Wood Wharf really come alive as hoardings come down, the roads open up and residents start to make it their home. We are excited to see Wood Wharf grow into a flourishing community filled with beautifully designed homes and wonderful social spaces, supported by a 1,000 strong Canary Wharf Group team working around the clock to ensure the private Estate remains one of the best maintained in London.”
