Our proposals for Montgomery Street and Water Street will contribute to the creation of a green spine through the centre of the Wharf brought to life by new gardens, pavilions, leisure opportunities, and pedestrianised areas to enhance the way people experience Canary Wharf.
The proposals include:
- Creating an enhanced experience for pedestrians in front of the main Jubilee entrance by opening up the views into Montgomery Square
- Creation of natural garden spaces with native planting, seating areas and sculptures
- Restricting vehicular access to South Road to create a pedestrian friendly environment and allow space for markets
- Introduction of a new pavilion in Montgomery Square to provide an all-day food offering in the new garden setting, as well as a kiosk which could house a small food and drink offer and public conveniences
- Providing an increased number of trees and additional planting to boost biodiversity at Canary Wharf
- Restricting vehicular access and introducing seating and planted areas along Water Street to enhance the pedestrian environment and relationship with the water
We are currently in the process of preparing a planning application for Montgomery Square and Water Street with the aim of submitting this to Tower Hamlets Council this Spring.

Consultation on the proposals
It is important to us that our proposals benefit the communities around Canary Wharf. We are keen to hear the views of people who are living or working at or near to Canary Wharf, as well as those who frequently visit the area.
We carried out public consultation on the Montgomery Square and Water Street proposals in April 2024. The materials were available online and feedback was collected via a survey.
