Henry Moore’s “Old Flo” Inspires Primary School Art Competition
Winners and runners up of the “Old Flo” primary school art competition will be displayed in Canary Wharf’s Community Gallery, showcasing the work of Tower Hamlets students.
The competition celebrates Canary Wharf hosting Henry Moore’s historic sculpture “Draped Seated Woman”, affectionately known as “Old Flo”, on behalf of the residents of Tower Hamlets. Local primary schools were invited to participate in the art competition to raise awareness of the artwork to younger generations, who will not have even been born when “Draped Seated Woman” left the borough in 1997.
Participating schools have been offered a grant of £50 towards buying art materials to run the competition and a prize of £1,000 will be offered to the school of the winning entry. The winners and runners up will have their work displayed in the Community Gallery at Canada Place Mall from Thursday 12 March – Tuesday 5 May.
To learn more about Henry Moore’s “Draped Seated Woman”, join one of two guided walking tours introducing you to “Old Flo” and artwork around Canary Wharf that has a direct affiliation with her. Led by architectural photographer Grant Smith, guests will have the opportunity to photograph the artworks and buildings and recognise the necessary elements in composition and framing your photographs. Tours take place on Saturdays 29 February & 21 March, 11am – 1pm Cabot Square Free Click here for more information
