Canary Wharf Group and Clifford Chance Celebrate Shavuot 2019

The Jewish Festival of Shavuot is embraced at Canary Wharf as part of a long-term commitment to the local and Jewish community. This year, Canary Wharf Group and Clifford Chance celebrated the festival with a pre-Shavuot event on Monday 3 June, held at Clifford Chance, 10 Upper Bank Street, Canary Wharf.

In support of the event, members of various local Jewish Centres attended including approximately 150 of the elderly community, members of the East London Synagogues Association and employees working at Canary Wharf. To celebrate Shavuot, guests were treated to lunch sponsored by Clifford Chance and a performance from Menorah Primary School Boys Choir.

Beginning on the evening of Saturday 8 June and ending on the evening of Monday 10 June, the religious holiday Shavuot, or ‘Festival of Weeks’, commemorates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, which originally took place seven weeks after Passover. It is also traditionally celebrated as an agricultural festival that marked the end of the spring barley harvest and the beginning of the summer wheat harvest. It is customary to consume dairy foods such as milk, cheese and cheesecake, as well as decorating homes and synagogues with fresh flowers and greenery.

Danny Seliger, Director at Canary Wharf Group plc says: “Shavuot is always a joyous celebration which we look forward to celebrating each year.  We are glad to welcome back many guests who have attended our past pre-Shavuot events, as well as embracing newcomers from the local community and Canary Wharf estate”.
