Newfoundland: London’s Skyline Welcomes Remarkable New Icon – 20.05.21

Newfoundland, a prestigious new addition to the Capital’s skyline and a landmark building for Vertus, Canary Wharf Group’s residential rental arm, has completed and is welcoming its first residents. Designed by award-winning London architecture firm, Horden Cherry Lee (HCL), Newfoundland, is an architectural and engineering masterpiece, clearly distinguished by its unique diagrid structural design.

The opening of Newfoundland, the tallest build-to-rent (BtR) scheme in the UK, marks a watershed moment for the sector – which is going from strength to strength – as the scheme offers an unmatched lifestyle experience for tenants across the Capital and boasts some of the best views in London. The scheme has been designed with sustainability in mind. Newfoundland’s sustainable features include saving over 8,000kg of Co2 emissions through the installation of PV solar panels on the roof, which is the equivalent of saving 768 gallons of diesel. The roof also features a variety of different species of wildflowers that contribute to the overall biodiversity on the Canary Wharf estate which includes five types of bats and birds such as tufted ducks, Mallards and Terns.

Rising 58 storeys above the River Thames, Newfoundland comprises 636 stylish apartments ranging in size from studios to three-bedrooms. The spacious apartment interiors have been beautifully designed by Johnson Naylor and show apartments dressed by award winning Angel O’Donnell. David Phillips have furnished the apartments and residents have the option of painting the walls to make the place really feel like home.
