Canary Wharf Winter Lights Festival Scoops Best Creative Lighting Event at darc awards 2017 – 12.10.17

Canary Wharf has been awarded the Best Creative Lighting Event of 2017 by the darc awards for its Winter Lights festival. The annual installation beat 16 other entries to be crowned this year’s winner.

Canary Wharf’s Winter Lights festival returned for a third year and showcased over 30 sensational works by some of the most inventive and exciting international artists working with light art today. The collection featured a number of pieces which had not been previously shown in the UK, as well as a series of new commissions.

Standout works from this year’s exhibition included Marcus Lyall’s On Your Wavelength, a mind-powered LED and sound installation of over 20,000 LEDs and OVO (OVO Collective) – an egg-like structure symbolic of new life – which immersed visitors in unique and beautiful light structures.

The festival also featured an indoor curated section within Canary Wharf’s Crossrail station, in which 12 projects were based.

The darc awards are the first peer-to-peer system for a lighting design awards and every independent architectural lighting designer and light artist is encouraged to vote online for their favourite lighting schemes. The awards are presented by darc magazine, an international magazine that focuses on decorative and design lighting in architecture. Click here for more information on the darc awards.

Winter Lights will be return in January 2018
