In Bloom: 10 Park Drive Sky Terrace Offers Year-Round Inner-City Green Sustainable Space
Following several months of lockdown through the British winter, many of us have rediscovered how important it is to have access to green spaces and the impact it has on our wellbeing. A recent survey commissioned by Canary Wharf Group highlighted that more than half of UK adults believe having access to outdoor space, an abundance of natural light and pleasing views onto water or green space would improve their wellbeing.
As we approach spring, the return to the office and what will hopefully be a freshly stimulated market dubbed by Chancellor Rishi Sunak as ‘Generation Buy’, purchasers are expected to be on the lookout for a new home that seamlessly blends inner-city living with the great outdoors.
Canary Wharf’s 10 Park Drive, which features a stunning 13th floor Sky Terrace, is sure to hit the mark. Designed by award-winning, Townshend Landscape Architects, the Sky Terrace features a variety of flexible green sustainable spaces that provides the ideal place to unwind and relax and offers clever, year-round planting that provides colour and interest throughout the seasons.
Many people’s wellbeing has been affected by their living environments during the lockdowns, but it’s given us an opportunity to consider what would really make a difference to our happiness. Research suggests spending just 20 minutes in a park or open outdoor and being around green space is one of the best ways to improve wellbeing. Developments such as 10 Park Drive, in Canary Wharf’s new district Wood Wharf, with its Sky Terrace offers the future of inner-city sustainable living.
Brian De’ath, Director of Residential Sales at Canary Wharf Group, commented: “The ability to access outdoor space has become incredibly important among purchasers over the past year and the Sky Terrace at 10 Park Drive goes a long way to deliver that. We wanted to design an area that’s sustainable and residents would actively engage with and really enjoy using.
“The mix of planting and places to sit and relax means that those living at the development have somewhere they can enjoy and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The terrace has been one of the most popular aspects of the development, with a number of buyers showing a real desire to use the space on a regular basis.”
10 Park Drive opened its doors to residents in June last year, who benefit from the Sky Terrace. The fully-landscaped space provides a secluded oasis in the heart of Canary Wharf, the ultimate 15-minute city, with views of the London skyline, from the Docklands in the east to the City and beyond to the west.
Across the Sky Terrace, the inside meets the outside through the use of formal and informal spaces or ‘green rooms’. Each ‘room’ is distinguished by the formality of the flooring; a mix of warm stone paving, great for soaking up the sun and relaxed wooden decking, that creates meandering trails through overhanging planted greenery.
The planting offers a contrasting mix of evergreen hedges, climbers, lush grasses and flowering trees which will provide greenery in both winter and summer. Plants range from beautifully scented Lilly of the Valley to soft Tufted Hair Grass and taller perennials including Silver Sage.
Throughout the year, the Sky Terrace is awash of colours and textures, including soft creams, delicate whites, bold and blushing pinks, and statement purples. For those looking for somewhere to sit in the sun and get lost in a book, these calming colours make the terrace the perfect place to relax. Residents will have access to this secluded haven with bookable facilities and free use of shared spaces, forming the ultimate residents’ club in the summer months.
With over 80% of apartments sold, the remaining homes at 10 Park Drive are available to purchase now from £715,000. There are studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments still on offer with extraordinary views of the city and ever-changing river scene.
