Canary Wharf Group plc (“Canary Wharf Group” or the “Company”) is an iconic London real estate business which has overseen the largest urban regeneration project ever undertaken in Europe. We design, build and manage a unique set of assets to serve local and international companies, renowned retailers and some of the UK’s most exciting technology startups.
Our vision is to create outstanding environments where people want to work, live and relax. Over the past 30 years we have developed over 16 million square feet in London’s disused docklands into one of the world’s foremost business districts. More than 11 million square feet of further development is also planned. Canary Wharf is home to the global and regional headquarters of leading names in the legal, banking, financial and professional services, media and technology sectors.
The Canary Wharf Estate (the “Estate”) is fast evolving into one of London’s most exciting hubs. Alongside high quality offices for established companies, our Estate is also a major retail destination containing five shopping malls. The Estate is also home to Level39, Europe’s most influential financial technology accelerator. We are delivering a major residential building programme, providing thousands of new homes for Londoners. Outside of Canary Wharf, Canary Wharf Group plc has a stake in the Shell Centre redevelopment on London’s South Bank. We are in the business of place-making and continue to create cityscapes for the future.
We employ over 1,200 people and there is currently a working population at Canary Wharf of 120,000 people. The arrival of Crossrail trains in 2021 will strengthen the resilience of the existing transport infrastructure, doubling capacity and cutting journey times into central London and further afield. It will take 39 minutes to get to Heathrow airport, while City airport will be just 10 minutes away.
Canary Wharf Group plc is owned by Brookfield Property Partners and Qatar Investment Authority, among the world’s largest commercial real estate companies and funds respectively. Canary Wharf Group plc was acquired in March 2015 and as part of this process, Songbird Estates plc, the former majority owner of Canary Wharf Group plc, delisted from the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market and in 2015 changed its name to Canary Wharf Group Investment Holdings plc.
