Rocket Launches in Canary Wharf

Pizza and salad restaurant and bar Rocket opens in Churchill Place, Canary Wharf on 29 April.

Rocket joins an impressive collection of restaurants and bars to open in the famous business and shopping district in recent months. Its unique and creative design includes artfully employed antique desks, chairs and hat stands; lamp shades made of champagne flutes; and an upstairs bar enveloped by open and closed chests of draws, personally designed by Founder and Managing Director Duncan Watts.

“That was one of my madder ideas but it has worked out incredibly well,” says Watts.

“It has always been our over-riding belief that going out is about having fun. We try and get this into every aspect of what we do at Rocket. We hope that our unusual and adventurous interior design makes you smile and that our staff will ensure that you relax and enjoy yourself while you are with us,” he says.

Rocket offers large fresh salads and creative 13” stone-baked wood-fired pizzas at impressive value. Its outside terrace arrives just in time for summer and the ground floor bar includes a large range of cocktails and wines at excellent prices. The bar offers a selection from the a la carte menu, as well as bar food. Areas are available for private hire.

Camille Waxer, Vice President of Retail at Canary Wharf Group plc (CWG) said: “We especially like the creativity and flamboyance that Rocket brings to the Canary Wharf dining scene. It will accelerate the trend of people heading to Canary Wharf to have fun outside working hours.”

Since August last year, Jamie’s Italian, Canteen, ROKA, Wahaca and the parlour have all launched in Canary Wharf to critical acclaim, creating over 400 jobs in the process.

Rocket is in Churchill Place at the east end of the Canary Wharf Estate, next to Jamie’s Italian, Barclays and the new State Street office building. The restaurant offers 80 covers inside and 40 covers on the outside terrace, which provides impressive views over the waters of West India Dock, the O2 and Canary Wharf’s world-class architecture.

It is the third Rocket in London, joining popular sites in Mayfair and the City of London, although each Rocket is individually designed and staffed. Rocket is independently owned by Anna and Duncan Watts.
