Let’s Get Physical with Sport Relief at Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf Group plc is gearing up for Sport Relief 2014, hosting a week-long sporting bonanza from 17 to 23 March across the estate. With something to suit all sport tastes and fitness levels, every penny raised will go to Sport Relief.

Now in its seventh year, Sport Relief works to improve the lives of vulnerable young people in the UK as well as enabling some of the world’s poorest people to gain access to vital services such as health and education. Canary Wharf Group plc are this year supporting the great work that Sport Relief does, with events including a Canary Wharf Sport Day on 21 March on Wood Wharf and a Family Fun Day on 22 March, including traditional races such as the classic egg and spoon!

Canary Wharf Reebok Sports Club will be hosting a range of fitness classes which are open to all and promise to get the heart racing. With everything from Running Circuit to Dynamic Yoga, Tangoworkout to Insanity, there is an impressive range of fitness disciplines to get involved in. Meanwhile the Docklands Sailing & Watersports Club will be staging Dragon Boat Racing, a riveting event which allows teams to board the ornate boats and race to the finish line in Middle Dock. In preparation for the start of Canary Wharf’s Squash Classic on the 24 March, Sports Relief participators can practice their racquet skills with a Badminton event for singles and doubles partners, while tennis fans can sample Padel Tennis. Competitive team sports also feature highly throughout the programme, as the London Lions, the city’s only professional basketball team, will demonstrate how to improve your Basketball skills before playing in a match while plucky participants in Dodgeball will battle it out on the court and Play on Sports host a Softball match.

Camille Waxer, Chief Administrative Officer for Canary Wharf Group plc said: “Since 2002, Sport Relief has done an incredible job uniting the UK through sport and supporting causes both at home and abroad. We hope that our programme of events will deliver fun and entertainment throughout the week, but also raise substantial amounts for Sport Relief 2014.”

Encompassing yoga classes to belly dance, ping-pong demonstrations to mini-golf and even offering the opportunity to try belly dancing, Canary Wharf’s unique programme of sporting events for charity offers something for everyone to get involved in.
