A much loved figure of the British music scene, Eddi Reader makes a welcome return to Canary Wharf for what promises to be a superb evening of entertainment at the East Wintergarden on Wednesday 17th February. She will be joined by special guest Boo Hewerdine, an accomplished singer-songwriter, renowned for his unique style with overtones of folk, pop and Nashville.
Love Is The Way is Eddi Reader’s new album for Rough Trade Records. Since the early 1980s, Eddi has helped to define the landscape in which folk artists and singer-songwriters navigate. Her incomparable voice and positive outlook have been a mainstay in British music ever since her band, Fairground Attraction hit the charts with the song Perfect in 1988. Following Fairground Attraction’s break-up, Eddi Reader ventured into a solo career to the delight of fans and critics alike and, most recently, her album The Songs of Robert Burns met with international acclaim.
Eddi’s new, self-produced album sees her move away from the traditional folk leanings of her last two releases towards a rich vein of modern classic songwriting, her aim to communicate a similar feeling of intimacy and honesty with music. She says: “I love the way when you’re listening to a Willie Nelson record for example, you just feel like you’re in the room with the performer and musicians – you feel like you’re in company…”
With Love Is The Way she continues to fly the flag for original, distinctive songwriting. “I have a passionate love of instinctive, beautiful songs as well as a slightly insane attachment to romantic chord structures”, explains Eddi. “Words that speak of some universal humanist truth that can be ‘thrown away’ with no regrets.”
The East Wintergarden is a spectacular events venue in the heart of Canary Wharf. It features a unique high arched glass roof structure and is renowned for its natural light and other architectural features. The East Wintergarden is designed to accommodate large banquets, conferences and receptions, but is highly versatile providing an ideal venue for an intimate acoustic showcase.
